Q: What is the proper diameter for the entry hole to a wren house?
A: For the house wren, the proper entry hole to a house is 1". Or it can be an opening 1" high and 3" long, horizontally. But we can't resist also saying that it should be 3 1/2" to 5" above the floor, that the floor space should be 4" x 4," the house height 5"-7"--and it should be mounted 5' to 10' above the ground. (For the Carolina wren and Bewick's wren--entry hole 1 1/8" to 1 3/8") We hope you are lucky enough to have one of these wonderful little birds nest in a house that you provide.
